Records of fungi new to Britain and Ireland
Names of validly published fungi not previously recorded in Britain and Ireland cannot be immediately entered on the system. Ideally a specimen of a new species for the database should be kept in a Fungarium either personal or national such as RBG at Kew or Edinburgh. It takes a little while for new names to appear via the UKSI and Indicia systems, in the meantime the record can be entered using just the genus or even fungus (unidentified) and then adding the species name or details in the fungal notes field. Please use the BMS Extended record page which has fields to record where the specimen is being kept. The record can be found again by putting the name entered in the notes page in the Search box above the map on the explore page.
